Web 2.0 is the entire buzz these days but does it lead to wine sales or other sales? Have you considered TV 2.0 or Net TV? The jury is not yet in. The new media possibilities are just beginning to be explored. Wineries and wine retailers have yet to truly explore the possibilities with spend or sophistication. You should explore and champion the idea of testing the waters. The water is chilly but some will warm up to the awards of profit and sales by exploring. As wineries begin to review their 2008 marketing budgets and plans for the new fiscal year, a consideration of appropriation of spend should be allocated toward experimenting in new media.
Thoughts to consider… Web television has the buzz. Non-wine products are beginning to get noticed so why not wine? The web TV series Diggnation draws hundreds of thousands of viewers online and it has Fortune 500 corporate sponsors. Diggnation covers user submitted stories on the social news website Digg.com The Online US TV audience is growing. According to eMarketer during 2003 52.3 Million U.S. viewers watched an online video. In 2005 that number was 89.4 Million US viewers. 2007 the projection is 123.4 Million U. S. viewers. Online video advertising is projected to hit $2.9 Billion by 2010 according to a forecast from eMarketer this represents a significant rise from last years spend of $410 Million. Are any wineries participating in the net-TV storm? There will be stumbles but some will translate creative exploration into wine sales. Who will lead the pack in best of breed Net TV marketing?
